This blog is our way of letting you know about the delicious and free meals available in the Derry, New Hampshire area. We hope you will join us for an enjoyable meal in an inviting community setting.
This blog is posted by "Elijah's Table," a joint project of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration (1 Hood Road, Derry, NH) and Etz Hayim Synagogue (1-1/2 Hood Road, Derry, NH), both located on Hood Road in Derry, NH. Twice a month we provide free, family-friendly dinners, which are served in a relaxed atmosphere. There are other organizations in the Derry, New Hampshire area that also offer free and delicious meals to the public. Please see the calendar on the right-hand side of this blog for a list of upcoming meals. And don't forget the offerings of the Sonshine Soup Kitchen (described on the left-hand side of this blog) and The Derry Salvation Army!

Standing room only!
It was Spring outside today, and we had a huge crowd. We managed to find seats and tables for everyone and we heard folks saying things like, "Fabulous meal," and "I worked as the lead waitress at a fancy restaurant for many years, but the service here is even better than it was there!" We were thrilled to have so many guests, and doubly thrilled that they enjoyed our food. We had appetizer plates with cheese, gaucomole and hummos; eggplant, lasagna, and mac and cheese; and pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Please make our next event just as terrific by joining us and bringing your friends.

Love and (chocolate) kisses.
We had a nice crowd tonight, despite the cold and blowing snow. A serenade by a talented harpist, delicious lasagna and comfy mac and cheese, bright veggies, and chocolate kisses -- and good friends, of course -- made braving the weather absolutely worthwhile. Here are a few snapshots of our evening.

Chocolately and Valentiney.
I'm looking forward to our dinner on Sunday the 17th. I imagine there will be something chocolatey and valentiney for us to eat. Also, we are expecting a talented harpist to play for us! Last month, we were serenaded by a few piano players. I recently received this lovely comment from their piano teacher: "Not only was it a great experience for the kids to play for an audience, their whole families really enjoyed themselves, not only the meal, but also the warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere."
So strap on your boots, pink shoes, or high heels: Sunday promises to be a great event.

Hot Apple Cider Rules
Here are the Hot Apple Cider Rules:
1. Come in from the cold;
2. Warm yourself with hot, spiced apple cider;
3. See your friends;
4. Have a great meal;
5. Enjoy delicious dessert.
6. Maybe win a prize.
We applied the Hot Apple Cider Rules to our dinner tonight. There was plenty of food, hot apple cider, fabulous pie, and a couple of prizes for the lucky raffle ticket holders. On top of it all, we had piano music; several students of one of our volunteers came to play for us! Please join us next time. Hot Apple Cider Rules may apply.

From Lowell with Love
I learned tonight that two of our church partners are actually from Lowell. They came tonight, in the snow and ice, with a pile of hot sweet potatoes. Now, that's love!
The sweet potatoes were terrific with the salmon, spinach salad, cheesy broccoli, pasta with sage and butter, and home-made chocolate and vanilla cakes.
Below are some highlights of the evening: "Woman with Stylin' Holiday Hair," "Christmas Sweater Time," "Good Friends," "Ladies at Piano," "Loving Couple," and "Clementines." SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

Brain Food on the 16th
Please join us this coming Sunday the 16th. We'll be having a special holiday meal with salmon as part of the main course. There will be fresh veggies and dessert, of course. Let's celebrate this holiday season together!
By the way, the picture is from the romantic comedy, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Very charming!
