From Lowell with Love

I learned tonight that two of our church partners are actually from Lowell. They came tonight, in the snow and ice, with a pile of hot sweet potatoes. Now, that's love! The sweet potatoes were terrific with the salmon, spinach salad, cheesy broccoli, pasta with sage and butter, and home-made chocolate and vanilla cakes. Below are some highlights of the evening: "Woman with Stylin' Holiday Hair," "Christmas Sweater Time," "Good Friends," "Ladies at Piano," "Loving Couple," and "Clementines." SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

Brain Food on the 16th

Please join us this coming Sunday the 16th. We'll be having a special holiday meal with salmon as part of the main course. There will be fresh veggies and dessert, of course. Let's celebrate this holiday season together! By the way, the picture is from the romantic comedy, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Very charming!

"Gobble, gobble, gobble, I love Thanksgiving Day!"

It's the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and we have lots to be grateful for. Good friends, a warm and cozy environment, and plenty of "comfort food" (including baked potatoes with sour cream and apple pie). We raffled off some Kooky Cookies, hand-made by one of our helpers, and chocolate turkeys. Please join us next time.

Kooky Cookies

One of our young helpers has decided to sell cookies to raise money to help fund our Elijah's Table dinners. This week, she is selling VERY adorable and yummy turkey-shaped cookies.  You just want to "gobble" them up.
See you guys on Sunday, November 18 for another fantastic (and free) dinner!  Maybe there will be a kooky cookie...or information on how to get one.

Scenes From a Wonderful Dinner: 10/21/12

I just got back from our monthly dinner at Etz Hayim Synagogue.  The best comment of the night came from the guy in the top photograph:
"Excellent dinner!"

Julie and Julia in Derry

I just finished watching the movie Julie and Julia, the movie (based on the book) about a NYC writer who decides to cook every recipe in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in one year and blog about it. Inspired, my husband and son got spinach omelettes covered in sauteed mushrooms and onions for breakfast this morning, rather than the usual scrambled eggs. Food is great:  it keeps us alive, inspires us to create, brings forth memories, bridges cultures, and builds friendships.  Our Elijah's Table dinners do this too.  So please join us!  Especially this month:  thanks to our friends at Baked on Pastries, we are serving gourmet pie, and lots of it!

Google doodle, celebrating what would have been Julia's 100th birthday on 8/15/12.
"I think careful cooking is love, don't you? The loveliest thing you can cook for someone who's close to you is about as nice a Valentine as you can give." --Julia Child

Sunday, September 9: Food and fellowship.

What can I say that I haven't said before?  If you haven't come to one of our dinners,  you are really missing great food and a great time.  Today, we had eggplant, lasagna, fresh green beans, cheesy brocoli, garden salad, and garlic bread.  For dessert:  vanilla cake with stawberries, chocolate pudding, apple cobbler, pies, and banana bread.   A song was sung in memory of one our guests who recently passed away.  What a wonderful community we have become!

"May you never forget those sweet hours..."

Today's dinner (August 19, 2012) was great.  We had at least 70 guests, and great food:  salmon salad, tuna salad, egg salad, garden salad, potatoe salad, a yummy pasta and veggie dish, cheeses, and ice cream and cookies, including some home-made chocolate chip cookies.  Our emcees handed out the lyrics to "Red River Valley" ("Come and sit by my side if you love me; Do not hasten to bid me adieu; But remember the Red River Valley; And the Cowboy who loved you so true..."),  and everyone sang!  Truly it was a lovely evening.  I hope you will join us next time.  Check out the updated calendar.

Pictures from the evening:  "Happy folks on line for dinner"; "Waiting for dessert the easy way and hiding from the camera lady"; "Our emcees singing 'Red River Valley'"; "Fresh salad"; "Our intrepid dishwashers" (we are so grateful for them!).

"Take me out to the ballgame..."

Hi everyone.  We had a BIG crowd tonight. I'd like to think our great food is the attraction (tuna salad, fresh Caesar salad, noodle kugal, different cheeses, cherry pie, peach pie, strawberry rhubarb pie, apple pie, pie, pie, and more pie),but perhaps it was the air conditioning.  Well, I guess the reason for the great turn-out doesn't matter:  It was wonderful to see the room full of friendly faces, and somehow Jay and Steve (our "MCs") got everyone singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"!!!

I took these photographs on my new smart phone.

Enjoy a cornucopia of fruit pies THIS Sunday.

Our good friends at Tamaja's Pies called me the other day to ask if I wanted a bunch of fruit pies for our dinner on Sunday.  Of course I did!!!  There are all sorts of pies and hopefully there will be vanilla ice cream.  But you'll have to eat the "healthy foods" first:  tuna and egg salads, caesar salad, and a noodle dish.  Please join us!

Today's Dinner: Sun and Fun

Our April 15 FREE Elijah's Table dinner at Etz Hayim Synagogue in Derry was great, as it usually is:  eggplant parm, veggies, fresh salad, fresh fruit kabobs, italian ices, and wonderful pies from our friends at Tamaja's Pies.  It was warm outside, and friendly inside, with lots of people laughing.

Here are pictures of our some of our volunteers preparing desert, serving the meal, and getting ready to call out the winner of the door prize (one of the small pies we got from our friends at Tamaja's Pies), and of some of our friends enjoying dinner! Please join us next time!
