This blog is our way of letting you know about the delicious and free meals available in the Derry, New Hampshire area. We hope you will join us for an enjoyable meal in an inviting community setting.
This blog is posted by "Elijah's Table," a joint project of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration (1 Hood Road, Derry, NH) and Etz Hayim Synagogue (1-1/2 Hood Road, Derry, NH), both located on Hood Road in Derry, NH. Twice a month we provide free, family-friendly dinners, which are served in a relaxed atmosphere. There are other organizations in the Derry, New Hampshire area that also offer free and delicious meals to the public. Please see the calendar on the right-hand side of this blog for a list of upcoming meals. And don't forget the offerings of the Sonshine Soup Kitchen (described on the left-hand side of this blog) and The Derry Salvation Army!

Something Wonderful Happens in Summer.
Who can't recall summer nights as a kid, the sound of the ice cream truck and laughter, and running out to the street (for me, with my big sister) to get an ice cream. At Etz Hayim's Elijah's Table, we've been serving ice cream cones and sandwiches for dessert (as we did on July 20th). For August, I'm thinking of S'MORES. I hope you will join us. Something wonderful happens in summer, don't you think?

Press and Popsicles.
It was a glorious summer day and we had lots of guests, with quite a few new smiling faces, including some special guest stars, a woman from the Derry News and the Town Historian. The musician we hoped would play for us was unable to attend due to illness, but it was great fun nonetheless, with lots of great food: noodle kugel, various fresh salads (greek salad, fruit salad, bean salad), egg salad, and ice cream.
It will be just as much fun next month, so please join us.
By the way, if you are wondering where you can get the cool sandal butter cookies, check out the Village Bean Coffee Shop in Windham, New Hampshire.

Signs of Spring...and Ice Cream.
Every year, Spring seems to come as a surprise. It is unbearably cold, unbearably cold some more, unbelievably still unbearably cold...and then it isn't. Suddenly it is bright outside, and people are smiling....and there is ice cream for dessert at Elijah's Table. Here are some pics from today's dinner.

"You folks are so nice!"
While bringing a couple some coffee, the woman said, "You folks are so nice here." But tonight was a series of sweet acts by everyone. From Orianna's home-made cupcakes to Karen's home-made heart-shaped cookies, to the guy who won the teddy bear prize and gave it to the young boy celebrating his birthday, to Frank handing out chocolate kisses and giving the stuffed elephant he won to one of our young volunteers. It's a blessing to participate in an event that inspires such moments of kindness. I hope you'll join us next month. Dinner at the Church of the Transfiguration will be on March 8; Dinner at Etz Hayim Synagogue will be on March 23. See you then.
