This blog is posted by "Elijah's Table," a joint project of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration (1 Hood Road, Derry, NH) and Etz Hayim Synagogue (1-1/2 Hood Road, Derry, NH), both located on Hood Road in Derry, NH. Twice a month we provide free, family-friendly dinners, which are served in a relaxed atmosphere. There are other organizations in the Derry, New Hampshire area that also offer free and delicious meals to the public. Please see the calendar on the right-hand side of this blog for a list of upcoming meals. And don't forget the offerings of the Sonshine Soup Kitchen (described on the left-hand side of this blog) and The Derry Salvation Army!

It takes a Thanksgiving village.

It takes a lot of time and people to make a great Thanksgiving Day meal for 100 or so folk.  Here are some pictures of the volunteers who gathered at the Derry Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration early today to help out.  And we got some pics of guests who arrived early, too:  it's a warm, sweet,  family vibe here, so why not come early?  By the way, it's not too late to join us.  Dinner will go to 2:30 p.m.  There is freshly roasted turkey; home-made mashed potatoes, squash, and green bean cassorole; apple, blueberry, pumpkin, and chocolate cream pie; and lots of other stuff.

Ready to serve!

The Thanksgiving elves spent all day on the 27th peeling, chopping, and cooking.  Please join us for a great Thanksgiving Day meal on Thursday from 1 to 2:30 at the Derry Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration On Hood Road in Derry.

Summertime and the living is easy.

I was chatting with my son about blogs, and realized with horror that I hadn't updated this page in a long time.  What's my excuse?  It's summertime, and the living is easy...and a bit lazy.(click here).

Neverthess, Elijah's Table carries on, with good food and friendly faces.  Here are some pics sent to me from Sunday August 18's dinner at Etz Hayim Synagogue.  Join us in September.

What are these ladies fighting over?

Pretty in pink.

What is better than smiling volunteers?

What goes together like a horse and carriage?

What goes together like a horse and carriage?  Soup and salad!  We had a wonderful "indoor picnic" today at Etz Hayim Synagogue of tuna, egg, pasta, and garden salads, watermelon, ice cream donated by Moo's Ice Cream, and crispy pita bread.  Where does the soup come in?  One of our "kids" worked with PJ Our Way to create bags of soup kits that we distributed to our grateful clients.  We are so lucky to have kids who want to be involved in their communities, and lucky to have a community of wonderful people who visit us each month.  Elijah's Table at Etz Hayim Synagogue is taking off for June as our usual day (the third Sunday of the month) is Father's Day, but we'll see you in July.  Have a great month.

The volunteers.

The kids who made the soup kits.  What a terrific group!
